![]() ![]() I had so many favourite quotes (see them below). And even the (temporary) killing of Beth! It was so callous and gave me chills.Įmma’s writing is gorgeous, however. The hangings, them being Jack’s fault and him bearing that guilt, oh my. I would have liked to see Jack reunited with his family though.Īt some points it got incredibly dark, much darker than I expected of a middle grade novel, to be honest. I’m glad the book had a happy ending! I appreciated that. The backstory of the Gearwing kind of lost me, that’s where I had trouble finishing the book. I would have really liked to know more about The Lady and Lorcan and their story (how they created Londinium, where they came from) but alas this book was not about them. Beth was fun, I liked her too, she was a great help to Jack in this new and exciting land. He took to being in an alternate London quite easily. ![]() I liked Jack, he was a spunky child with some badassery in him. I didn’t really enjoy Emma Trevayne’s other book (The Accidental Afterlife of Thomas Marsden) so I was wary about this despite my excitement. ![]() But I did enjoy the steampunk, clock, and London aspects of it all. I was really enjoying it up until about 2/3rds of the way in, and then it kind of lost me. ![]() FLIGHTS & CHIMES & MYSTERIOUS TIMES by EMMA TREVAYNE ![]()
